When you become a parent, the most important thing in your life becomes the well being of your children. No longer do you have the mentality of a singular person, but rather as a parent. In order to ensure the quality of the future prospects of your child’s life, it’s critical to make sacrifices. The more sacrifices that you make, the more that your child’s future can benefit from them.
For this reason, being a parent is known as one of the toughest jobs on earth. So what is it that parents have to give up to make sure their young ones have what they need? Take a look at some of the most common sacrifices parents say they’ve had to make.
A Clean House
Remember all that time and energy you put into the interior design of your home? All of that goes out the window once you have kids. Between jelly finger marks on the counters and Legos stuck in the shag carpet, gone are the days when your house was spotless and clean.
In addition to being messy, kids also accumulate a lot of stuff over the years. As they get older, your house starts looking less like an interior design magazine and more like an episode of Hoarders. Fear not, however, mom and dad, it won’t last forever. Once they’re off to college, you can have that minimalistic IKEA catalog home again that you once loved so much. Make no doubt about it, when do you’ll miss stepping on Legos.
Privacy
Ask any parent the last time they went to the bathroom alone, and you’ll be surprised to find that most will say it’s been a long time. Kids under the age of 5 have a difficult time understanding the concept of privacy. As a parent, it can be frustrating when you’re trying to do your business in the bathroom, however, just see it as your children love you so much that they can’t possibly imagine another minute without you. Embrace the open door while youre on the toilet for now, and appreciate that they love you so very much.
A Social Life
Before kids, most people are able to hang out with friends spontaneously as much as they like. Whether it’s checking out the latest opening of a bar or grabbing a coffee during their lunch break, there’s no shortage of opportunities to fill their social calendar. However, once you have kids, it becomes more difficult to fit social time into your lifestyle.
Between bedtime routines and dropping off kids at extracurricular activities, sometimes you might start to forget that you used to have friends at all. Although it can be difficult during the younger years of a child’s life, your social life will slowly return. You may even miss those Friday nights you stayed home watching Disney movies on repeat.
