If you have a new baby entering your family you have a lot of work ahead of you, even before the baby arrives. Not only do you need to be prepared with baby diapers and doctor’s appointments, but you also need to have space set up for baby to live in. While you may start out with a bassinet in your own room, sooner or later baby will move into their own room and it helps to have to set up before you are too busy with that little bundle of joy in your arms.
You need to make sure that your nursery is a safe place and that it has everything you need to make sure that baby is safe and comfortable. Here are some things you may want to have to make it that way.
The Right Furniture
You need to start off with picking the right furniture for your baby. While a bassinet may work in your room in the beginning, you’ll need a crib for baby to sleep in when they move to their own room. Make sure that you pick a well made crib that is sturdy and safe.
You also want to make sure that you get the right bedding so that your baby stays warm and comfortable. You also want to make sure they are safe, which means avoiding items that could suffocate your baby or pose a choking hazard.
Must Have Items
Your baby needs certain things to entertain them and help them, and you, sleep at night. The one thing that may help you sleep better at night once you have moved your baby into their own room is a baby monitor. Whether you really need one or not, it can be a comforting thing to own.
If your baby is being fussy and crying you may be able to hear them across the whole house, but when baby wakes up they may not be super fussy, but you may still want to spend that time with them, and your monitor will let you know that baby is awake when you hear their little noises.
Atmosphere Is Key
Not only do you want to make sure that your baby has a room that is bright, lively, and cute, but you also want to make sure that the atmosphere itself is comfortable. Paint the walls light colors, like pale pink, blue, green or a warm yellow. Relaxing colors that will soothe your baby.
Include some music, even if it’s just a music mobile above the crib. Music is probably even more relaxing a soothing for your baby than it is for you. Plus, a mobile will distract them and make them smile.
