Whether you’re having a baby, adopting, or letting your cousin move in when he fell on hard times, there are things that you’ll want to do in order to get your home ready. Maybe you’re just having everyone over for the holidays, from now on, and you need to make sure that there is room for everyone to sit around the table for a meal.
There are different things that you can do to make more room in your home, whether it’s temporary room or permanent space for someone that’s going to be sticking around for awhile. The key is to make sure that you make a plan before you get into action, especially if you’re going to need to do some major renovations and get some money in order to do them.
Money To Make It Bigger
If you are getting a permanent addition in your home, like a new child (or baby), you may want to do an expansion. You might even need more than just an extra bedroom. You might need another bathroom, a larger kitchen, or even a bigger dining room. The first step to doing a home renovation like this is figuring out where to get the cash, whether it’s through a loan or a settlement you’ve waiting for.
Make sure you have someone that know construction and home renovation come in and look at your place. They will be able to help you figure out if what you want done can be done and how much it is going to cost to do it.
Decluttering And Cleaning
You will need to do some major cleaning even if your home is normally a clean place. Sometimes you can make enough room in your home for an extended guest simply by doing some decluttering. Maybe your spare room has turned into a collection of all the items no one uses anymore (try donating them to a thrift store or selling them in a yard sale).
If you have a baby coming you might want to consider getting rid of some of the things you’ve collected that might not be baby or toddler-friendly. You could pack them away in storage until your child grows up, or just get rid of it. If there are things you never use cluttering up your home, let them go.
Seating For Everyone
If you just need room to have people over for the holidays, your answer may simply be in having some extra seating and tables. If you don’t have a space to store extras or you want something you can easily tuck away the rest of the year, you could invest in some card tables and folding chairs.
If card tables aren’t your thing, you could invest in some chairs that are stackable. You could also consider a table that has leafs to extend it to a longer length.
