The home where you live needs to be safe and in at least relatively good repair. So when something major or catastrophic goes wrong, you probably have to call professionals as quickly as possible to get the situation handled. So it’s best to preempt that situation by having contact numbers on hand and at the ready for every member of your family.
A few examples of contact numbers that you need to have would include the names for an electrician, a plumber, a city manager, and any insurance company representatives that you may have to speak to quickly. All of those people will have equipment or resources that can help you prevent a serious tragedy from getting worse in your home environment.
An Electrician
If your power goes out, the first thing that you do is check your breaker box. But if something still seems to be off, it’s important to call an electrician quickly. If something is shorting out or heating up that you can’t see or hear, an electrician will be able to find that out promptly before any sort of fire starts. But if you just try and play with your electrical wiring on your own, you can potentially make things worse very quickly.
A Plumber
If you spring a leak somewhere in your home, there might be a few things that you can do on a small scale. You can find your central water shut off valve, turn that off, and then look for the leak yourself. Or maybe you can see some pipes that need to be tightened together. But if there is anything where a significant amount of water is coming into an area of your home or through your walls, you need to have a plumber come and fix it before the damage becomes irreversible.
City Managers
Depending on where you live, you may need to contact the city manager about something that’s a potential issue. One example would be if your neighbor has an open fire burning in his or her yard. If you need to find out if this is legal or safe, you need to figure out how to contact a city representative that can give you information accurately. If you don’t know that number, you may have to call the police.
Insurance Company Representatives
If significant damage occurs in any form to your house, it may be necessary to contact an insurance representative. You may be covered by several different insurance agencies, so having all of their numbers and contact information on hand easily is always a good idea. There’s insurance for fire flooding. There’s insurance for theft. There’s insurance for other natural disasters. If you need to make a claim, it’s important to have that contact information quickly available.
